MEDIA ADVISORY: Banneker-Douglass Museum to Host Opening Reception Featuring New Rotation of Exhibitions in “Douglass Reading Room”

 
WHAT: Banneker-Douglass Museum will be a hosting a opening reception featuring a new rotation of exhibitions that will be on display in the “Douglass Reading Room.”

New exhibitions that will be featured in the “Douglass Reading Room” include:

  • Artwork by famed African American artists including: Romare Bearden, Alison
    Saar, Elizabeth Catlett, Tom Miller, Leslie Smith III, Mildred Thompson, Arvay
    Adams, Laurence Hurst, Kenneth Herlihy; and
  • Notable books by: Octavia Butler and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

The reception will include a moderated discussion with Gregory Morton, “Douglass Reading Room” exhibit curator and owner of “Douglass Place” in Baltimore City; and Ka’mal McClarin, interpretive ranger for Cedar Hill – the Douglass home in Washington, D.C.

The Douglass Reading Room” was opened earlier this year in celebration of the “Year of Frederick Douglass,” and will run until February 28, 2019. Guest curated by Greg Morton, the interactive exhibit interprets the writings and living quarters of Frederick Douglass – connecting historical themes with modern day discussions.
