Volunteer Maryland Commences 2018 – 2019 Service Year

ANNAPOLIS, MD– Volunteer Maryland today announced the start of their 2018–2019 service year with 27 AmeriCorps members serving in partner sites throughout the state. This year, Volunteer Maryland will serve three more Maryland counties than last year. In preparation for the service year, AmeriCorps members have attended training sessions and seminars hosted by Volunteer Maryland.

“Every year, Volunteer Maryland aims to serve the entire state. This year, we are excited to have our members serve from the western mountains, across the Chesapeake Bay, and everywhere in between,” said Nicki Fiocco Director of Volunteer Maryland. “This Volunteer Maryland class is comprised of diverse individuals who have unique backgrounds with regards to work and life experiences. Some members moved from out of state to serve specifically within the Volunteer Maryland AmeriCorps program. With the talents and motivation of the VM31 Class, we are eager to see how they move the needle on critical needs in Maryland communities.”

Volunteer Maryland AmeriCorps members serve as Volunteer Coordinators, addressing critical community needs including education, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship. Volunteer Coordinators focus on building capacity for their respective organizations’ volunteer programs to better serve the needs of Marylanders. In addition, two AmeriCorps members serve as Peer Leaders within Volunteer Maryland as part of the support team, mentoring and providing support to members in the field.
