Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism Now Accepting Nominations for 2019 Governor’s Service Awards
New Small Business, Government Employee/Agency Category
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism today announced the opening of the nomination period for the 2019 Governor’s Service Awards, marking the 36th year of the awards program. The awards will recognize Marylanders who have provided significant volunteer contributions to communities around the state during 2018. This year, the program will feature two new categories – Small Business and Government Employee/Agency. The categories are introduced to honor small businesses as an integral part of community prosperity across the state, and to extend appreciation to public servants across different levels of government.
“Through the Small Business category, we will honor a corporation or business with 50 employees or less for their service to Maryland communities,” said Van Brooks, director of the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism. “Similarly, the Government Employee/Agency category will help us to recognize government employees at the local, state, or federal levels for their service to our communities.”
Nominations for the Governor’s Service Awards may be submitted in one of 14 categories, including AmeriCorps Alum, Corporate Business, Emerging Leader, Faith-Based, First Responder, Government Employee/Agency, Group/Team, Individual, Lifetime Achievement, Member of the Board, National Service, Nonprofit Volunteer Program, Small Business, and Veteran. Nominations will not be accepted for youth or youth groups in the Governor’s Service Awards; instead, a new youth awards program recognizing individual youth and youth groups will be announced separately.
The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2019 Governor’s Service Awards is Friday, June 7, 2019. To learn more about the awards programs and submit a nomination, visit gosv.maryland.gov/governors-service-awards.
