MEDIA ADVISORY: Douglass Leadership Institute Hosts Juneteenth Celebration at Banneker-Douglass Museum, Niece of Dr. Martin Luther King to Speak

 

WHAT: The Douglass Leadership Institute will host a 2019 Juneteenth celebration at the Banneker-Douglass Museum, the official African American museum of the State of Maryland. The event will feature special guest Dr. Alveda King, activist, author, and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King, Commissioner of the Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Committee, will also participate in a panel discussion with Rev. Dean Nelson, President of the Douglass Leadership Institute. Dr. King is visiting historic places for African American leaders and communities in Maryland to commemorate Juneteenth – an American holiday that honors the announcement of the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865 and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
