Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Maryland State Fair Recognizes More Than 32,000 Maryland Changemakers

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan sent a special invitation to all Maryland volunteers to join the Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at the 138th Maryland State Fair through the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism. More than 32,000 volunteers accepted his invitation to attend. This day is dedicated to celebrating positive changes Maryland volunteers have made to our communities with dedication and collective action.

Volunteers and their family members and friends were treated with the best of events and entertainment at the fair with discounted passes provided by the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism. More than 500,000 Marylanders in total from cities, towns, farms, and shores visit the fair each year.

“We seek to promote a culture and spirit of serving others in need across the state as we engage tens of thousands of Marylander volunteers to thank them for their service, in collaboration with the Maryland StateFair,” said Steve McAdams, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives and Interim Director of the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism. “The fair is not just a great time, but an opportunity to unite our citizens in changing Maryland for the better.”

Known as one of the top 50 fairs in the U.S., the 12 day-long festival features rides, games, and exhibits and offers fresh food and drinks from Maryland farms and the Chesapeake Bay. The fair also showcases the agriculture industry with educational programs in partnership with the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

Fairgoers can find detailed schedules on www.marylandstatefair.com and share their fun memories on social media with the hashtags: #MYMDSTATEFAIR, #unFAIRgettable, and #FairCULTURE.
