Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford will virtually participate during the 4th Black History Month Leadership & Service Awards on February 26, 2021 by providing closing remarks via video. The Governor’s Office on Service & Volunteerism invites all Marylanders to join them as they highlight each Black History Month Leadership & Service honoree on their social media channels through photos and videos during the last week of February. 


For the fourth year, the Governor’s Office on Service & Volunteerism will recognize the contributions of African Americans, and the larger diaspora, by highlighting leaders who are spearheading significant service and volunteerism across Maryland. Eight honorees will be celebrated for their commitment to strengthening Maryland communities and making a lasting impact. The Office believes it is more important than ever to recognize those who are rising up to serve and volunteer, to persevere, and to strengthen our communities.

The honorees, locations of service, and affiliations include:

  • Marva Jo Camp: Prince George’s County, Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center
  • Lauren Poteat: Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Chair of Washington D.C. Women in the NAACP (WIN)
  • Water’s Edge Museum: Talbot County
  • Wayne Long Jr.: Carroll County, Harford County, Omega Psi Phi McDaniel College Chapter
  • Chosen Community Development Corporation: Cecil County, Harford County
  • Pamela Zeigler: Harford County, Joppatowne High School 
  • Morgan Cruise: Baltimore City, Stillmeadow Community Fellowship Church
  • Ayyub Hanif: Baltimore City, Healthy Solutions Medical Center, John Hopkins School of Nursing
