Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism Announces Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Maryland State Fair

ANNAPOLIS, MD –The Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism joined the Maryland State Fair today to announce the Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at the State Fair. The Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation day celebrates the contributions of citizens who dedicate time and energy to improve their communities, providing discount passes for admission, food, and rides to Maryland volunteers attending the State Fair that day. In 2017, over 5,000 volunteers and their family and friends enjoyed the fun-filled Sunday at the fair. This year, Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 10 am to close. Volunteers must produce a printed copy of the pass in order to gain discount entry to the fair. Passes may be obtained by visiting, gosv.maryland.gov/governors-volunteer-appreciation-day-faqs/.

“We are pleased to partner with the Maryland State Fair again this year for Volunteer Appreciation Day, and thank those who offer their time, expertise, and experience to improve our communities and change Maryland for the better,” said Van Brooks, Director of the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism. “We invite and encourage all Marylanders to join in the spirit of volunteerism during the celebration of the Governor’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Maryland State Fair by donating school supplies, which will equip our students with important tools for their education and ensure the development of a new generation of volunteer leaders in our communities.”

In addition to discount passes, the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism will host a school supply drive at the Maryland State Fair. Items will be collected at the entrance gates and various locations throughout the fair from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Items accepted include:

• Composition books
• Calculators
• No. 2 pencils
• Markers
• Crayons
• Binders
• Folders
• Hand sanitizers
• Tissues
• Glue sticks

Each pass will admit up to five people to the fair for just $3. The passes will also include discounts on food and rides. Groups can request a pass by visiting gosv.maryland.gov/governors-volunteer-appreciation-day-faqs/.

Volunteers must produce a printed copy of the pass in order to gain discount entry to the fair. Discount passes may only be used on August 26 with a rain date of September 2 if the fair should close on the original date due to inclement weather.
