Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives Releases New GOCI TV Episode
Economic Impact of Diversity, Black History Month Celebration
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives (GOCI) today released the third episode of GOCI TV – Monthly Impact Series. Every month, the video recaps how the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives changes Maryland for the better, in collaboration with hundreds of partners across the state. GOCI serves as the community outreach arm for the Hogan Administration.
February By The Numbers:
- The Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives connected 4,500 Marylanders with state resources through 24 events and 28 partnerships.
- 10 outstanding African American volunteer groups recognized in celebration of Black History Month have served nearly 2,500 Marylanders, impacted more than 11,000 of our citizens, committed more than 14,000 service hours, awarded 16 scholarships, and recorded 175 oral histories of African Americans in our state.
- The Governor’s Commission on African Affairs co-hosted a trade conference with 250 attendees, including Maryland’s Secretary of State; 15 ambassadors; and state and federal leadership. According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Maryland exported $310 million of services and goods to sub-Saharan African countries in 2018.
- The Governor’s Office of Community Initiative joined a legislative night with 200 community leaders from 11 counties for Muslims in Maryland. Maryland is home for 350,000 Muslims from 60 different countries.
- The Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives joined a celebration of the India Republic Day. More than 96,000 Asian Indians reside in Maryland and the state exported nearly $400 million in goods to India in 2018, making it the state’s 10th-largest export market.
