Read Across Maryland Update Draft
The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, Inc. launched its Read Across Maryland program in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives. This annual program encourages and raises awareness of reading and financial literacy. It calls for every individual in every community to celebrate reading and financial literacy during October. Accordingly, Governor Larry Hogan proclaims October as Reading and Financial Literacy Month.
Read Across Maryland will focus on educating individuals on the importance of reading and financial literacy. In cities and towns across Maryland, educators, students, librarians, legislators, athletes, parents, grandparents, and others develop Read Across Maryland activities to bring reading and financial literacy excitement to people of all ages. The Governor’s office, mayors, county executives, and elected officials recognize the role that reading and finances play within our communities. All schools and nonprofits within the state of Maryland are encouraged to partner with the Caucus and the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives to motivate students to become successful readers and financial stewards.
